The Torus
A flat
aluminium sheet is firstly bent to fit the wooden template then hammered with a
nylon bossing mallet to create crease in the middle. Using the round side of
the mallet, the crease is stretched and smoothened out to get even curve.
Prior to hammering each ends to make a reverse curve, I
experimented with steel tube. Hammering on the tube gave more refined surface
and removed marks, however, the circumference of the tube was too large for the
small curves on each ends so a round steel dolly anvil was used to form smaller
curves.
once the curves have been created, the the edges were
flattened on the leather sand bag using nylon mallet so the curves are not too
shrunk. Then the middle curve is more hammered gently using the nylon bossing
mallet to refine the shape.
