The Blister
The template consists of two identical timber
pieces with a shape of a teardrop cut and sanded. The task is to create a half
of three dimensional tear drop shape using the templates and varies tools.
Firstly, to obtain a definite line for the shape, aluminium sheet was clamped
on top of the template and then the edges were hammered
Once the lines for the shape was clearly marked, I realised that the nylon
bossing mallet was a perfect fit for the shape to create a smooth surface with
no lumps hence I decided to hammer gently on the mallet with another nylon
mallet as my tool to shape metal.
Through using mallet as a shaping tool, I was able to achieve a very smooth
surface, however there was a limit in how deep it can be. So hammering on the
leather sandbag and adding a piece of timber to elevate the templates since the
metal began to reach the bottom of the template, created more curve and depth.
The challenge during the process of this shape was to be able to create a
sharp point using different tools. The wooden template sitting on top of the
metal sheet was removed in order to work on the point more easily. Then a nylon
mallet with edge was hammered with a mallet to prevent any creases or cut. Also
metal shaping tool made out of solid timber piece was used to add more
precision.
Using the wooden metal shaping tool and metal hammer, the edges were
hammered to flatten out surface and remove marks.
